Chrissy Teigen Gets Shamed For Going Down a Slide With Luna

Chrissy Teigen Is Being Shamed Again — but This Time There's a Real Takeaway For Parents

Surprise, surprise, Chrissy Teigen is being mom-shamed again for a photo she posted on social media, and while we're full-on supporters of the celeb mom's constant and clever clapbacks to the haters, in this case, there's actually a real takeaway for parents. The photo in question pictures Chrissy sitting on a playground slide with Luna, and those commenting negatively are pointing out the dangers of going down a slide with your child on your lap or between your legs, which parents should take note of.

"Weeeee are very skeptical of slides right now," Chrissy captioned the photo of her and Luna. After receiving a number of negative comments on the photo, the mom, never shy of speaking her mind, wrote: "Wish you guys would have told me about the broken leg thing earlier. They broke. Both of them. And everyone else's in the park broke too just from watching it happen. There are so many broken legs here (heads up, photos are a one-second moment in time, I was lifting her onto my lap)."

Although we're laughing at her clapback, because come on, that's funny stuff, we will say that even lifting Luna onto her lap before sliding could have actually caused a painful accident. According to a study at New York's Winthrop University Hospital, nearly 14 percent of pediatric leg fractures over an 11-month period involved toddlers going down a playground slide on an adult's lap.

Kristi Broughton, a mom who spoke to POPSUGAR back in June 2017 after her 3-year-old son's leg was broken during such an accident, said: "I had him in between my legs sitting in front of me. At the very end of the metal slide, the rubber sole of his shoe got caught and stopped but his body kept going, so he twisted his foot underneath him. The weight of me behind him was exactly what made it worse. Instead of him being able to correct his foot, my weight kept it going."

Regardless, none of this information excuses the shaming on Chrissy's post. Helpful advice is one thing, but know that each mom has the right to choose what's best for their child, and insinuating that someone is a bad mother or stupid for doing something they didn't know could cause an accident is never OK (it's called an accident for a reason, despite potentially being preventable). One commenter, who knows the dangers of slides firsthand, put it perfectly: "My little cousin did actually break her leg like this . . . but seriously relax trolls."

Be safe, mamas. But also, be kind.
