- Colombian president Juan Manuel Santos received the Nobel Peace Prize today. Santos was recognized for his efforts to end the country's civil war with the socialist guerrilla army FARC after more than 50 years of conflict. In an unfortunate turn of events, the Colombian people recently rejected the peace deal that he negotiated with the fighters. It's unclear what will happen next.
- Bruno Mars released his first single in four years this morning. The disco song, called 24K Magic, is from his upcoming third studio album of the same name. Mars hasn't released a full album since 2012.
- Hurricane Matthew struck Florida last night and continued early into this morning. The storm was downgraded from a category four storm to a category three, but it still sustained wind gusts of over 100 miles per hour. Over 600,000 Floridians are without power. South Carolina and North Carolina are now bracing for the storm. The hurricane struck Haiti three days ago, killing over 500 people and leaving thousands homeless; it was the worst storm to hit the island in 50 years.
- Rudy Giuliani's daughter publicly announced her support for Hillary Clinton. Giuliani, the former mayor of New York City who governed during the 9/11 attacks, is an avid Donald Trump supporter, frequently speaking at his campaign rallies.
- A recently published study found that children inherit intelligence from their mother, since the genes responsible for smarts are located in the X chromosome. The study has been disputed, however, and critics claim intelligence is more complicated than just genetics.
- Keeping Up With the Kardashians, Kim Kardashian's reality TV series on E!, suspended filming indefinitely yesterday. The news comes after Kim was reportedly robbed of more than $10 million in jewelry at gunpoint in her Paris hotel room. Shaken by the attack and concerned for her safety, Kim has allegedly reevaluated how much she shares with the public.
