Jimmy Kimmel's Racist Jokes at the 2017 Oscars

Jimmy Kimmel Should've Never Made These 2 Insensitive Jokes at the Oscars

Jimmy Kimmel offered up a boatload of good-humored jokes during his Oscars hosting stint, from roasting Matt Damon to calling out Donald Trump. But many viewers noticed two instances in which Kimmel showed extreme insensitivity toward people of color at the show, and the internet is not pleased.

The first of these came when Mahershala Ali won the award for best supporting actor for his role in Moonlight, making him the first Muslim actor to win an Oscar. Ali gave a touching acceptance speech in which he gave a cute shout-out to his wife, who gave birth to their new baby a few days prior to the show.

Kimmel responded to Ali's momentous win by taking an insensitive jab at the actor's name, noting that it must have been hard to pick a "normal" name for their daughter considering that his name is Mahershala. "You can't name her Amy," Kimmel joked.

Twitter users everywhere quickly responded to Kimmel's poor joke, totally calling him out for the slip-up.

But it didn't stop there. The Oscars host brought a group of supposed tourists into the theater for quite the interesting skit. Among the group of lucky people was an Asian woman who said her name is Yulree and explained that "it rhymes with jewelry" when she noticed Kimmel's confused look. When the man next to her said his name is Patrick, Kimmel joked, "Now that's a name."

See the clip below for a peek at the moment (around the 4:00 mark).

Yet again, the internet responded to how Kimmel made another jab at a person of color simply because their name wasn't "normal" to him.
