Bana Alabed, the 7-year-old Syrian girl who has been tweeting from Aleppo, met Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan today. According to the BBC, President Erdogan sent representatives to Syria to get Bana's family after they were evacuated from eastern Aleppo. In a tweet, President Erdogan stated, "Turkey will always stand with the people of Syria," along with a photo of the politician with Bana and her family.
Bana and her mother Fatemah have called attention to life inside east Aleppo since joining Twitter in September. They previously posted a video begging First Lady Michelle Obama to help them and asked J.K. Rowling for help in getting Bana some Harry Potter books. The account has also posted photos of Bana hiding in her room and the destruction of their home.
Hours after Bana's family escaped Aleppo, they were flown by helicopter to Turkey, reports the BBC. Although Bana and her family are now safe, Fatemah tweeted a reminder that many other families are still in danger. "I can't and we can't all be happy until all the remaining people who want to leave are evacuated from East Aleppo."
