The Grey's Anatomy Guide to Seattle — For True Superfans Only!

Chances are, if you're a fan of Grey's Anatomy, at one point you also considered a trip to Seattle. I've got you covered. While there may be no official tour for Grey's fans, here is a guide for must-see sites to save, from photo-ops at exact filming sites to locations inspired by scenes from the drama (because, unfortunately, Joe's Bar does not exist). When you're ready, go beyond the screen and book your next trip to experience this iconic city in real life!

01
Visit the Intern House
ABC

Visit the Intern House

Although Meredith's house is located at 613 Harper Lane in the show, you'll want to follow directions for 303 W Comstock Street in the Queen Anne Hill Neighborhood to find the Intern House. From the house, take a short walk to Kerry Park, or indulge in a scoop of honey lavender ice cream from Molly Moon's Homemade Ice Cream!

02
Take a Ride Up the Space Needle
ABC

Take a Ride Up the Space Needle

Grey's fans will probably recognize the Space Needle from the posters. Plan a trip to the top of this established symbol of Seattle! Also, take advantage of the prime location and visit other attractions around the Seattle Center, including the Chihuly Glass & Garden Exhibit or Museum of Pop Culture. If you're looking to do a little shopping, hop on the Seattle Center Monorail to Westlake Center and enjoy the outdoor shopping experience in Downtown Seattle.

03
See Why Derek Has a Thing For Ferry Boats
ABC

See Why Derek Has a Thing For Ferry Boats

Curious as to why Derek owns a scrub cap with ferry boats on it? So am I, but riding one seems like the best way to pay tribute to McDreamy. If you're looking to experience a city tour on land and water, Ride the Ducks of Seattle. Another option would be to travel on a traditional ferry across the Puget Sound to Bainbridge Island for a relaxing day trip.

04
Walk Along the Pier
ABC

Walk Along the Pier

The Pier may be the location to one of the most intense scenes in Season 3, but it is also where Derek showcases his endless love for Meredith (cue the tears). Whether you're indulging in an independent trip or sharing the adventure with a friend or significant other, a ride on the Seattle Great Wheel will surely be memorable. Take your time on the pier and explore the Seattle Aquarium while also stopping by Ivar's Seafood Bar for some clam chowder. Looking for a more intimate location? Hit up The Pink Door for refreshing drinks, fresh seafood, and a stunning view of the waterfront.

05
Explore the Area Around the Waterfront
ABC

Explore the Area Around the Waterfront

Slip on your walking shoes and tour Pike Place Market, a quintessential stop in Seattle where you can pick up the most amazing arrangement of flowers or watch fish fly from one stall to another. While the hospital may be a 24-hour hustle, the busy streets of Pike Place offers a more lighthearted energy. Don't forget to poke your head in Post Alley and leave your mark on the infamous Gum Wall!

06
Stand in Filming Sites From the Show
ABC

Stand in Filming Sites From the Show

Though the majority of filming is done in Los Angeles, the show does manage to film a couple of scenes at Seattle locations like Gasworks Park, the Fremont Bridge, and the waterfront. Ever wanted to step into the mind of Meredith? Take a walk from the Intern House to the hilltop of Kerry Park (another filming location) and enjoy the view of the skyline spanning from Mt. Rainier to the Puget Sound. If you're lucky enough to visit on a clear day, catch the sunset and watch the city light up in front of your eyes.

07
Hit Up Joe's Bar
ABC

Hit Up Joe's Bar

Sadly, Joe's Bar will remain a fictional location, but if you still want to say you've been, there are two options. Joe Bar is a cozy café offering a perfect spot to enjoy coffee and brunch in Capitol Hill and Joe's Bar & Grill is a neighborhood bar located in the International District of Seattle.

08
Savor a Drink at These Establishments
ABC

Savor a Drink at These Establishments

Enjoying a drink seems to be a pastime of choice for the characters, and Seattle offers some great places to spend at night. Let's start with one of the more famous bars in Seattle, Canon, which holds the largest spirit collection in America. Creativity is certainly a key element here when it comes to drinks! Another can't miss spot is Navy Strength, a tiki bar recently awarded the Best New American Bar of 2018. Finally, if you're in the mood for a good, old neighborhood bar like Joe's Bar, check out Linda's Tavern on East Pine Street.

09
Treat Yourself With Seattle Cuisine
ABC

Treat Yourself With Seattle Cuisine

Seattle's food scene is no joke! Starting off with local favorites, check out Paseo Caribbean Food and Ezell's Famous Chicken. If fast food isn't your thing, homemade pasta at Il Corvo, modern Vietnamese cuisine at Stateside, and expert grilling at Ciudad are all a must. Vegan? Try Plum Bistro or Café Flora!

Every doctor need a little time for R & R. Blessed as the Evergreen State, Washington offers plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy during the warmer months. Try hiking up Rattlesnake Ledge, a four-mile round-trip offering a brilliant view, or Mount Si, one of the most popular trails in Washington. Around the University of Washington, you can also rent a kayak at the Waterfront Activities Center (WAC) and paddle around Union Bay.

11
Grab a Cup of Coffee
ABC

Grab a Cup of Coffee

Is there an episode where a coffee cup isn't seen? Whether it's for a boost of energy, or just a habitual drink, this Seattle staple is worth exploring. Luckily, as visitors, you'll have a little more time to sit down and enjoy your coffee in the city. While there is the Original Starbucks located on Pike Street, I suggest taking a photo and then moving on to enjoy local coffee shops like Victrola Coffee Roasters or Seattle Coffee Works. For a unique twist, Caffè Umbria offers traditional Italian coffee combined with a peaceful ambiance.

Finish With These Personal Favorites of Mine
ABC

Finish With These Personal Favorites of Mine

I can't miss the opportunity to share some of my favorite spots in Washington! For a caffeine fix, Espresso Vivace Sidewalk Bar is a fun and convenient café to stop by in Capitol Hill. If you're on the lookout for brunch, check out Oddfellows Café & Bar or Portage Bay Cafe (French toast highly recommended). End the day with Hot Cakes Molten Chocolate Cakery — need I say more? Another great sweet spot is Frankie & Jo's, which offers a fully plant-based menu of heavenly ice cream flavors. Beyond food, check out the Seattle Public Library for one-of-a-kind architecture or visit Discovery Park to escape the crowds for a bit. I also can't stress how interesting Pike Place Market is, especially if you spend time walking into all the unique small-owner operated stores. It's where I don't mind acting like a tourist in my own city!
