A New Face Is Coming to the Doctor Who Cast

The regenerated Twelfth Doctor won't be the only new face on Doctor Who when the series returns later this year for its eighth season. On Monday, BBC America announced the addition of a recurring character named Danny Pink, a teacher at Coal Hill School alongside Clara Oswald. Danny will be played by Samuel Anderson, actor currently best known for playing Ross Kirk on the British soap opera Emmerdale, as well as Crowther in the Tony Award-winning play The History Boys.

In typical form, Doctor Who Executive Producer Steven Moffat won't give many clues as to how Danny will be a part of the Doctor/Clara dynamic. "For the fourth time in Doctor Who history," Moffat said in a press statement, "Coal Hill School is coming to the aid of the TARDIS. In 1963, teachers Ian Chesterton and Barbara Wright accompanied the first Doctor. These days, it's the turn of Jenna Coleman as Clara Oswald. And very soon now, Sam Anderson as Danny Pink will be entering the world of the Doctor. But how and why?"

The series is currently filming episodes four and five of season eight. Source: BBC America
