I Stayed at a Harry Potter Hotel — See All the Magical Details!

The entrance to the Harry Potter-themed rooms is behind a secret door beside the stairs — no, not in the cupboard under the stairs. When you check in, they turn on the Harry Potter film soundtrack for an especially magical touch as you enter your room.

I have to admit, I was a total sucker for the faux-bookcase entrance!

The room is quite small, but it is cozy and cute.

Loved the little details like the owl keys and the Deathly Hallows mug provided in the room, which you buy from the front desk.

Sadly Floo powder is not provided, but the rustic, Hogwarts-esque style is on point.

There is a very helpful sign for entrance to the Ministry of Magic beside the toilet. As you can see, the only downside to the bathroom is the poorly placed mirror that requires standing on the toilet to use. (It's also the only usable mirror in the room.)

All the windows are covered with faux-stained-glass decals to give it more of that Hogwarts touch.

Even the shower curtain is magical!

Here's another hidden detail inspired by the series.

Harry Potter books are provided, naturally, in addition to the entire film series on DVD for free checkout from the lobby. This is a big bonus if you're a fan like me who really only wants to watch Harry Potter all day, every day, especially when you're vacationing in the UK!

The room has a Gryffindor color scheme of red and gold. It definitely felt like we were staying in the Hogwarts dormitories.

A full breakfast is included (both buffet and menu), including two special Harry Potter-inspired offerings: Forbidden Feast and Toffeedukes Pancakes.

I chose the Forbidden Feast, which is a slight twist on the full English breakfast of back bacon, scrambled eggs, tomatoes, mushrooms, black pudding, baked beans, sausage, and hash browns. Note the cheese and pretzel "broomstick" and the cherry tomato "Golden Snitch." Yummy and adorable!

Here's the hallway down to The Wizarding Chambers, which is the bigger Harry Potter-inspired suite for families or groups. I could have sworn the paintings were moving!

All in all, I'd say it was a fun, unique experience, and I'm glad we did it. I loved all the little details inspired by the series, and it did a good job of feeling like Hogwarts without be overtly HARRY POTTER. I also firmly believe all hotels (in the UK but really worldwide) should provide the complete Harry Potter film series. The room we stayed in, however, was pretty small and poorly laid out for the price, so I probably wouldn't do it again unless we had more people and could stay in The Wizarding Chambers.
