Two of California's Greatest Bakeries Team Up For an Epic Spread
For one day only, Sept. 29, two of California's most adored bakeries — Santa Monica's Huckleberry Cafe and San Francisco's Tartine Bakery — combined forces to create a lineup of pastries so tempting and so epic that we had to go all out and try one of everything. A celebration of the release of Zoe Nathan's Huckleberry: Stories, Secrets, and Recipes From Our Kitchen ($35), the LA bakery held a pastry pop-up in Tartine Bakery. The best part: if you weren't able to check it out yourself, there are recipes for all of these treats in the cookbook. Keep reading to see the goods.

We'll Take One of Everything, Please
Everything from the Huckleberry pop-up, aside from the (not pictured) savory cobbler and an english muffin that sadly wasn't available until later in the day.
Maple Bacon Biscuit
Tender, crumbly, and just salty enough, this pretty-darn-perfect biscuit was neither too smoky from the bacon nor too sweet from the maple syrup.
Huckleberry Minibrioche
Meet the star pastry from the cover of the Huckleberry cookbook: a berry-filled brioche. Here, tiny, tart huckleberries were baked into an adorably petite, sugar-crusted loaf of buttery bread. In the cookbook, blueberries replace the tricky-to-track-down huckleberries.
Blueberry Cornmeal Cake
We have a serious soft spot for unfussy snacking cakes, so it was hardly surprising that this blueberry cornmeal cake was one of our favorite bites. Tender, moist, and jammy, it perfectly straddled the line between breakfast and dessert.
Savory Cobbler
A savory cobbler might sound like an odd concept, but it works wonderfully. Here, juicy cherry tomatoes, lemon thyme, and goat cheese were paved with buttery biscuits.
Apple Butter Handpie
Just look at those layers of puff pastry! If that's not enough to get you excited, consider this gem's filling: spiced apple butter. Put simply, it tasted like Fall.
Jammy Scones
The secrets to this must-try scone's tender yet toothsome texture are ground walnuts and cornmeal (and likely some delicate handling of butter). Add to that a generous pocket of raspberry jam and what you have is completely irresistible.
Granola Pot
The sleeper hit of the bunch (and perhaps our favorite, though it's hard to pick) had to be this parfait of Straus yogurt, berry preserves, and granola, dubbed the Granola Pot. We loved the combination of golden raisins and cashews in the granola with the tart berry preserves and rich, tangy yogurt. Something tells us we're going to have to try this simple recipe out ourselves.
