Though parts of society may not still be widely accepting of black women flaunting their natural hair, many are disregarding those archaic standards and embracing their god-given manes. Instagram artist Pierre Jean-Louis decided to capture the beauty of natural strands in an empowering photo series fittingly titled "Black Girl Magic."
Using images of women and their hair as his muses, Pierre creates colorful, celestial works of art with their strands. He turns curls and Afros into mystical forests, starry galaxies, and even elaborate floral bouquets — giving glitter roots and multicolored strands a serious run for their money.
He told The Huffington Post that his series and admiration for natural hair were prompted by women on Instagram showing off their tresses. "I was amazed to see how so many black women are finally letting go of their insecurities and accept themselves for who they are. #Goddess."
