Brunettes get a rough deal. While everyone has been trying out rainbow hair shades this season, it's a lot easier for blondes to get the look. Hair chalk just fades on dark hair, you have to use a whole can of color spray, and temporary dye never even shows up! That's why we asked hair color pro Aura Friedman at Sally Hershberger Salon to help us take a more permanent route. Aura is known in Hollywood as the master and has bleached the heads of Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lawrence, Molly Sims, and more.

With Aura's expertise, our POPSUGAR assistant fashion editor Samantha (Sam) Sutton went from chocolate brown to rose gold. The mix of rich blond tones and subtle pink highlights immediately transformed this hair virgin into an edgier version of herself. "I consider myself to be pretty girlie, but with this hair color I'll add more casual pieces like t-shirts and sneakers," Sam said. Even though this five-hour process did involve bleach, Aura used a special treatment to protect the integrity of the hair (more details later so you know what to ask for at the salon). Plus, we're sharing all of Aura's tips on how to boost your color once it begins to fade.
