Choosing the right hairbrush can make a world of difference in the health and appearance of your hair. But with so many options available – each designed to cater to specific hair types and styling needs – finding the perfect brush can be daunting. Luckily, we tapped beauty experts to learn just how to find the right brush, regardless of your hair type, texture, and length.

"One of the biggest factors to consider when choosing a hair brush is the type of hair it is being used on," licensed cosmetologist Audrey Boyce tells PS. "The firmer the bristles, the more tension that is put on the hair, which is usually more necessary for coarse, curly, and coily hair, whereas the softer bristle brushes tend to work better for those with straight or wavy hair."

There are two main types of bristles: boar and synthetic. "Boar bristles are generally used for smoothing the hair when styling, and are softer than the synthetic bristles, making it an ideal choice for someone looking for a less damaging option," Boyce says. "These brushes even distribute the sebum on the scalp throughout the shaft of the hair, which promotes hair growth and blood circulation of the scalp." On the flip side, synthetic bristles are another great option. "Synthetic bristles, often made from nylon or plastic, are more rigid and durable," says Becca Raziuddin, director of artist education at Blo Blow Dry Bar Corporate. "They are excellent for detangling knots, especially in thick, curly, or coily hair, and can handle more tension without breaking." Your needs and preferences will ultimately narrow down what kind of bristles you'll want to look for.

From affordable finds to luxury favorites and brushes for detangling, this curated lineup features a diverse range of hair brushes that are perfect for every hair type. Whether you need to tackle stubborn knots or flaunt healthy, shiny hair, these hair brushes will give you good hair days every day. Ahead, learn more about the best hair brushes for all hair types and textures.

Best Hair Brush For Long Hair

GHD Paddle Brush ($35)

If you have long hair, let us introduce you to your new best friend: the GHD Paddle Brush. This premium tool is designed to handle long, thick hair with ease. Ideal for creating sleek, smooth styles (read: no frizz!), this brush features a broad, flat base that can reach every hair. The heat-resistant, anti-static nylon bristles help to frizz and static while gently detangling and smoothing hair. For best results, pre-dry hair until it's 80 percent dry, and then brush your hair from the root to the tip. Salon-worthy hair, here you come.

Customer Review: "I cannot say enough good things about this brush. I am shocked at how amazing it is. I never leave reviews for anything and had to leave one for this. First of all, it doesn't pull your hair at all. I have very thick, curly hair and it was tangled so I gave this brush the ultimate test. Second, you don't have to hold your hair to brush it (like to get the big tangles without hurting your head) and it still doesn't pull. Next, I want to mention the look it gives. No joke, salon-quality hair. No frizziness at all, and it gave my hair shine and even pulled it straight without any product. My hair feels so soft (like silk). I feel like I came out of the salon or have extensions in. I know it's pricey but trust me it's worth every penny. I have a sensitive head so I have tried most brushes and products out there just to make it easier to brush. I can honestly say this is better than any detangler and/or way more expensive brush. I wish I had bought it years ago. I hope my words help more people give this brush a chance."

Best Hair Brush For Thin Hair

Tangle Teezer The Fine and Fragile Ultimate Detangling Brush ($16)

People with fine hair know it's a blessing and a curse. While it's typically easier to manage, it often doesn't have much volume. Because of that, you can't use boar-bristle brushes since they distribute too much oil into the hair. That being said, plastic bristles can be a saving grace. They're gentle on fine hair and can work through tangles without damaging ends. This affordable option from Amazon makes hair tangle-free and shiny without pulling any out. For best results, use this when hair is wet, right after applying a leave-in conditioner.

Customer Review: "This brush is the perfect size! It is amazing at detangling my very fine hair. It is the best brush I have ever had. It does not pull my hair out like a normal brush. It is very gentle. It has helped with my frizziness. It is easy to hold and to travel with. It has worked great for my hair wet and dry!"

The boar bristles themselves work to reduce frizz and static while providing a nice scalp massage that promotes circulation and healthy hair growth. The result? A shiny, polished hairstyle.

Customer Review: "Highly recommend this brush, I had heard that boar bristles are amazing for the hair shaft and the scalp due to the natural oils in them, so I finally splurged and grabbed one. I love it. The bristles feel so good on my scalp and they grab the hair and really detangle and brush through without using much force at all, literally none. My hair has been shinier and healthier after, so whatever this magic brush is doing, I'm happy with my splurge and now I see what others have been talking about with boar bristles."
