This Spring's Biggest Hairstyle Trends Are a Blast From the Past

Bubble ponytails are equal parts playful and fashionable, and they're such a cute way to add a little bit of fun to your look during the warmer months no matter where you're headed.

"I love this trend because like all trends it starts with the kids and grows from there," celebrity hairstylist and Unite ambassador Graham Nation tells POPSUGAR. "This is no different and honestly we can always learn from each other especially the youth and how to keep things fun and interesting."

The great thing about this style is that it's super easy to do by yourself at home; all you need are a few elastics and some holding spray.

"Fun tip: you can use different-color elastics for a pop of color in the ponytail or to match your outfit of the day or your face mask," hairstylist Mark Townsend previously told POPSUGAR.

Megan Fox, Simone Biles, and more celebrities are bringing back Baby Spice's signature hairstyle: half-up, half-down pigtails. "The trick to this style is keeping your pigtails smooth and tamed," says celebrity hairstylist Hayley Heckman.

Right now, the fluffier and bouncier the hair, the better. For spring 2022, you'll continue to see the '90s supermodel blowout dominate on social media. "The '90s supermodel blowout is a classic," says celebrity hairstylist Graham Nation. "Blowouts are fun, bouncy, and they can be messy but still look very put together."

Tom Smith, celebrity hairstylist and international color creative director for Evo Hair, adds: "The '90s layers are all about bounce and volume, and are great for longer and thicker hair, providing fluffy, effortless glamour."

Many of us wore zigzag parts in the early aughts, but the style is coming back once more with a modern twist. "I love this style because it creates a unique and edgy look and can be paired with any simple style," says celebrity hairstylist Ayano Jinnouchi. "The key to achieving this style is creating a sleek, clean part." Then you can pair it with a simple ponytail, a messy bun, a model-approved top knot — the options are limitless.

The '90s isn't the only decade lending its inspiration to this year's hair trends. We've already seen tons of takes on the '60s-inspired hair flip this year, and even though it's been around for ages, it's set to make an even bigger comeback come springtime.

"Whether it's paired with a ponytail; half up, half down; all down with a side or middle part — I think it's such a fun way to spice up a sleek straight look this spring," celebrity hairstylist and Unite stylist, Hayley Heckmann, previously told POPSUGAR. "The style is super flattering on everyone and totally elevates a look."

Over the last year, we've seen this trend on celebs like Zendaya, Ariana Grande, and Millie Bobby Brown, though we're sure there'll be plenty more where that came from in the months to come.
