Cher's Signature Long Hair Is Here to Stay: "I Am Who I Am"

Cher isn't trying to turn back time. In an interview with "Good Morning Britain" that aired on Sept. 4, the 77-year-old pop icon got candid about aging and what keeps her feeling young — including her signature long black hair. "My friend Paulette and I were talking about when we were going to have to cut our hair and stop wearing jeans because it seemed like in those days that's what women did, and it hasn't hit yet," she said. "I just can't believe I will be 80 at some point, sooner than I wish, and I will still be wearing my jeans, and I will still be wearing long hair, and I will still be doing the same stuff I've always done."

Cher credited her family's "pretty amazing" genes for helping her age gracefully, saying she also just genuinely feels young. "I don't know if not feeling old makes you younger," she wondered aloud (but it seems to be working for her). She added that despite staying true to her personal style throughout the years, she still likes to be in the know. "I keep up with the trends, I have lots of young friends. I have old friends, too."

In the past year alone, she's certainly proven that age is just a number, closing the Balmain show in a metallic catsuit during Paris Fashion Week last September, wearing a strappy black ensemble to a Super Bowl party in February, and going platinum blond for NBC's Carol Burnett birthday special back in March.

With a memoir on the way, a Christmas album in the works, and a Cherlato ice cream company already up and running, her long hair is just one of the many things keeping the mogul looking and feeling young. But as Cher discussed in her interview, maintaining a youthful spirit is something that comes naturally to her, no matter the hairstyle. "I'm not trying to be young — I am who I am," she said. "I'm just getting along."
