The Secret to Julia Fox's Slick Bun Costs Only $5
Julia Fox has been serving up some major beauty inspiration as of late. Just a few weeks ago she rocked gothic eye makeup courtesy of Kanye West, and on Feb. 14 at New York Fashion Week, she schooled everyone on the liquid-hair trend with her sleek, high-bun hairstyle.
For the LaQuan Smith runway show, celebrity hairstylist Lacy Redway created the updo worn by Fox and the other models with chic, '80s aprés-ski resort vibes in mind. "I wanted the hair to complement the glamour that we know and love from LaQuan Smith," Redway said in a press release. "We kept it bold, sleek, and frozen in place."
The glossy finish on the hairstyle gave it that reflective liquid-hair look that's currently trending, and it's all thanks to two drugstore products.
Starting with the Tresemme One Step Smooth ($6, originally $8), Redway combed that through Fox's hair from roots to ends and then used a strong-hold gel with a boar-bristle brush to smooth the hair back into a sleek ponytail. Redway then split the ponytail into two sections and wrapped them into a knotted bun before securing it with hair pins. To freeze the style in place, she used a generous shot of hairspray. As a finishing touch, the Tresemme Keratin Smooth Shine Serum ($5) was added to the updo to create that shiny, liquid effect on the hair.
Liquid hair dominated the red carpet earlier this year, so its appearance on the runway comes as no surprise. The trend instantly gives hair an expensive feel and is a perfect excuse for keeping flyaways and frizz at bay during the cold winter months.
