You've probably heard of "Birkin" bangs, wispy bangs, and even micro bangs, but have you ever heard of "McDonald's" bangs? Yes, you read that correctly. The latest hairstyle trending all over TikTok is named after the popular fast-food chain, but not for the reason you may think.

The term refers to a type of curtain bang that mimics the shape of the iconic McDonald's symbol, and it's actually really flattering. "McDonald's bangs are big, voluminous curtain bangs, in the shape of a M — like the golden arches themselves," Tyler Moore, hairstylist at Live True London, tells POPSUGAR. "Unlike the original, this trend creates more volume than usual." That's right: the most significant difference between the traditional version of the fringe and the latest lies in the fact that for McDonald's bangs, loads of volume are added to the root to give that sexy '70s vibe, similar to the Farrah Fawcett hairstyle that went viral a few years ago.

If you have curtain bangs, then you can achieve this look; however, there are a few steps Moore recommends when trying to get the style. After washing your hair, make sure it's towel-dried before applying any products. To lock in hydration, Moore recommends the FUL Intense Moisture Mask ($40). You want your hair masks to have ingredients that are moisturizing such as shea butter or coconut oil in order to help keep frizz at bay. "This is key when styling this voluminous hair look," Moore says.

Then, you'll want to apply a smoothing spray all over the hair evenly to keep flyaways at bay. POPSUGAR editors are big fans of the Living Proof No Frizz Smooth Styling Spray ($40). Now, you'll want to turn your attention to your still-slightly-damp bangs. Begin blow-drying your hair in an upward motion and in the opposite direction away from your face.

"This means that if you are drying the left side, bring the hair to the right side when blow-drying, as overdirection helps to create the most volume," Moore says. "Then, for the winged-out look, hold the hair on your brush vertically and then slowly twist out upwards to create maximum volume." You'll want to allow your hair to cool down before releasing it from the brush in order to help it keep its shape. Once you've completed your entire head, finish with some hairspray to set everything in place.

With all things old being new again, we anticipate it won't be long until this retro hairstyle begins making its rounds and ends up on all of your "for you" pages. Get some inspiration for McDonald's bangs ahead to stay ahead of the trend.
