Miley Cyrus Goes Back to Brunette For the First Time in 11 Years
Miley Cyrus's blond hair is no more. On April 23, the "Flowers" singer returned to her roots, debuting dark brown hair on the red carpet at The Daily Front Row's Fashion Los Angeles Awards in Beverly Hills. Her brunette waves, styled in a middle part, cascaded past the bust of her Versace dress and gave longtime fans a major dose of nostalgia.
Cyrus's new hair color comes over a decade after she kicked off her "Bangerz" era with a blond pixie cut, marking her transition from Disney Channel star to mainstream pop artist. During a "Today" show interview in December 2022, the singer said she thought about going brunette to ring in the new year but changed her mind after Dolly Parton expressed her disapproval.
"I've never seen Dolly actually scared before," Cyrus said of her godmother's reaction. "She acted like I told her the worst news you can imagine. She clutched her pearls, gasped, and went back and she goes, 'You can't do that. You are me.'" It seems the conversation, though, wasn't enough to stall Cyrus's hair change for long.
While she has experimented with different shades of blond, some even verging on a honey brown, this is the first time in 11 years that Cyrus has officially gone brunette. There's no news yet on whether Parton is a fan of her goddaughter's new look. Still, Cyrus did maintain the best of both worlds thanks to the blond money-piece highlights framing either side of her face.
Cyrus hasn't been afraid to partake on controversial hair trends over the years, including the polarizing side part. In 2020, she even played a hand in bringing back the mullet, with stars like Billie Eilish, Debby Ryan, and Lizzo following suit.
In promotional photos for her latest album, "Endless Summer Vacation," Cyrus's hair is unmistakably blond. Prior to going brunette, she was also rocking a two-toned look, making the transition from platinum to a rich brown more seamless. Her new hair color, while reminiscent of her Disney days, is far edgier than any hairstyle Hannah Montana would have been hiding under her blond wig in 2006.
We have our fingers crossed that Cyrus will announce an "Endless Summer Vacation" tour soon so we can see more glimpses of her brunette hair. In the meantime, see her unexpected hair transformation ahead.
