The celebrity: Emily Blunt, Golden Globes 2015
The hack: Backcomb the end of a braid to hold it in place
The pro tip: Seeing hairbands on the red carpet takes away from the elegance of a gala-worthy gown and updo. So Laini Reeves avoided it altogether when she secured the ends of Emily's milkmaid braids with a bit of artful teasing.
DIY it now: "I braid the hair right to the very end so you can't fit any more into it and then pinch the end and backcomb to hold it," said Reeves. "It gets a bit fuzzy, but it won't unravel. Doing this — rather than using a hairband — allows me to focus on the shape. It also adds to the texture." She sealed it with Serge Normant Dream Big Instant Volumizing Hair Spray ($25). Finish by pinning the plaits across the nape of your neck like traditional milkmaid braids.
Bonus: Dab a bit of wax on your fingertips to give braids even more grip while you're doing the weave.
