We waited about 25 minutes for all of the hair to cool off. This is the part where the treatment along with the heat actually changes the hair and physical form of the follicle. After Jean released all of the rollers, she applied a neutralizer formula to chemically “lock” the hair into its new wavy shape. Then, we headed back to the wash station to rinse one more time before the final product.
I can tell within minutes following the wash that my hair texture is different — even sopping wet, it feels less fine and coarser. And I can already see signs of curls on small pieces surrounding my face.
Salon owner Nunzio Saviano did the honor of diffusing my hair and explained that this is the preferable method of drying as opposed to a regular blow dryer, which can cause frizz.
According to Nunzio, the treatment lasts about three or four months, and while you’re free to style your hair however you want, he recommends avoiding the straightening iron as that will fade the curl faster.
