Saweetie's Nail Artist Says It Took 3 Days to Create Her Edward Scissorhands Acrylics

Saweetie always stays sharp. For this year's Halloween costume, the rapper put the spotlight on her signature blinged-out nails, and we can't say we've seen anything like them. Taking a page out of Tim Burton's book, she dressed up as an icy-girl version of Edward Scissorhands, re-creating the famous blades with customized acrylic nails. "Are these long enough for u," she joked in an Oct. 29 Instagram post, pretending to prune a houseplant with her dramatic manicure.

According to nail technician Temeka Jackson, the Scissorhands acrylics were a labor of love, taking three days to complete. When designing the nails, Jackson tells POPSUGAR, she wanted a set "that would emulate the character's uniqueness while complementing Saweetie's love for all things expensive, exclusive, and icy."

Staying true to the original 1990 film, she used real, foldable nursing scissors for sharpness and length but added plenty of sparkly charms and crystals as a nod to Saweetie's personal style. "The nursing scissors were sharp. However, to ensure that the artist did not cut herself, I submerged them in gel and embellished the blades with Swarovski crystals," Jackson says. Safety first!

Adding on to all the eye-catching details, you might also catch a few tiny scissor pendants, gun-metal spikes, and silver charms hanging off the sides. Jackson notes that there are also chrome metal balls and additional crystals hidden on the underside of the nails.

Once all the finishing touches were applied, Jackson attached the acrylics to a pair of black leather gloves to complete Saweetie's costume. "The nails were heavy; I needed zip ties to hold [them] in place," Jackson says, although you'd never know it from the pictures. Her advice for anyone wanting to try the look themselves? "Don't be afraid of a long nail," she says. "Step outside of your comfort zone."
