He Has a Military Background

Not only did he complete his military service with the Amphibious Battalion of Vaxholm's Coast Artillery Regiment, but he completed a Naval Officer training course and has held a number of titles including combat boat commander, sub-lieutenant in the Royal Swedish Navy, lieutenant, and major.

He Went to College in Rhode Island

After his stint in the Navy, Carl left Sweden to study at the Rhode Island School of Design. During his time in the US, he interned with National Geographic Society and won a design competition for Martha's Vineyard Museum under a pseudonym.

He's a Professional Race Car Driver

Just like his father, King Carl XVI Gustaf, Carl also shares a passion for racing. The prince is a licensed race car driver and owns a garage filled with exotic and expensive sports cars including a Ford Mustang Shelby. In July 2016, Carl was involved in an accident where he lost control of his car and ran another driver off the road (thankfully, no one was hurt), but that hasn't stopped him from doing what he loves.

He Struggles With Dyslexia

The royal has battled dyslexia since he was a child, and in 2015, Carl revealed that it took years for him to feel comfortable speaking about it. While visiting the Dyslexia Association in May 2015, Carl opened up about his struggles as a child, saying, "I got red marks constantly. To read out loud before the whole class was a real pain." He also touched on his appearance at the 2013 Swedish sports gala, where he stumbled while announcing one of the winners, admitting, "It was a terrible feeling, being portrayed as stupid and unintelligent.” His father, King Carl Gustaf, and sister Crown Princess Victoria also battled dyslexia as children.

He's a Man of Many Talents

In addition to being a race car driver, a loving husband, and a prince, Carl is also a designer. In 2012, he partnered up with Oscar Kylberg to launch a design company called Bernadotte and Kylberg. The design company specializes in home goods, including bowls, vases, and textiles.
