15 Ways to Hit the Slopes Like the Royal Family

A ski resort offers a dreamy Winter wonderland backdrop for any big celebration, and the royal family have certainly made the most of that over the years.

Prince Charles took a group of family and friends including William, Kate, and Harry to the Swiss resort of Klosters as a kind of bachelor party ahead of his 2005 wedding to Camilla Parker-Bowles, and in 2017, Kate attended her sister Pippa's bachelorette party in the French resort of Méribel.

Meanwhile, Harry, Princess Beatrice, and Princess Eugenie headed to Verbier in the Swiss Alps for an epic New Year's Eve celebration in 2011, and Prince Andrew celebrates his birthday most years in Verbier with his ex-wife Sarah and their daughters. In 2013, William, Kate, and Harry attended a friend's wedding in Arosa, Switzerland.

A young William and Harry were often pictured on sleds when they were on their family ski vacations.

It wasn't just the little princes who enjoyed sledding — their father, Prince Charles, often got in on the act too. Kate was even spotted sledding in the Swiss resort of Arosa in 2013.

On more than one occasion, Diana treated William and Harry to a carriage ride through the streets of Lech, Austria.

The royal family vacations with each other a lot — and they also like bringing their friends with them to make up one massive group.

Prince Charles and Princess Diana often took their annual ski break with Charles's younger brother Prince Andrew and his wife, Sarah Ferguson, and later, William and Harry often looked after Andrew and Sarah's daughters Beatrice and Eugenie on the slopes. They also skied with another cousin, Zara Phillips.

Even as an adult, Harry vacationed with his uncle Prince Andrew and former Aunt Sarah in the Swiss resort of Verbier along with his then-girlfriend Cressida Bonas.

William has been spotted sipping a beer or a Calvados on the slopes, while Kate usually sticks with water to keep hydrated at high altitude. The pair has eaten out at many traditional Savoyard restaurants, and when they attended a friend's wedding in the Swiss resort of Arosa, the menu included the cheese dish raclette, lobster salad, veal steaks, and chocolate and raspberry mousse.

Klosters in Switzerland is Prince Charles's ski resort of choice, and he has been vacationing there for over 40 years. It's where William and Harry first skied, but following an avalanche in 1988 which killed one of their party — Major Hugh Lindsay — Princess Diana refused to go back, and the family switched their annual ski break to Lech in Austria.

However after Charles and Diana's divorce, Charles returned to Klosters along with William and Harry, and it was on the slopes there that William and Kate's relationship first become public when they were photographed kissing. The royals always stay at the Hotel Walserhof and have had nights out at the restaurant Casa Antica.

Diana always took her boys to the Austrian resort, where they stayed at the Arlberg Hotel.

Despite their divorce in 1996, Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson still own Chalet Helora in the Swiss Alps and usually vacation there every year together with their daughters and assorted friends.

Verbier has also become a favorite of Prince Harry, and he has vacationed there with ex-girlfriend Cressida Bonas as well as with his cousins Beatrice and Eugenie on more than one occasion. He has stayed at Chalet Helora in the past, but has also checked into the Hotel Nevai, and when it comes to nights out, he can take his pick of Public — which has a dress-up box, photo booth, and VIP area called The Sweet Shop — which is owned by his friend Guy Pelly, or La Vache, which is part-owned by his friend James Blunt.

Another of his favorite clubs there is the Farinet, which is also where Prince William revealed his dancing skills during a trip in 2017.
