Avril Lavigne is moving on from Mod Sun with Tyga, and they're not letting any backlash stop them from enjoying each other's company.
At Mod Sun's March 15 show at Irving Plaza in New York, rapper Travie McCoy performed the Gym Class Heroes song "Cupid's Chokehold." Before the performance, in footage obtained by TMZ, he called Mod Sun "one of the three most loyal" people he knows and then exclaimed, "F*ck Tyga!" This prompted the entire crowd to start chanting McCoy's message to Tyga in unison as Mod Sun looked on in what seemed like pleasant surprise.
The new couple is brushing it off, though, as they were spotted holding hands as they exited Catch Steak restaurant in West Hollywood after a date night on March 16. Speculation that Lavigne and Tyga were possibly dating emerged when TMZ published photos of the musicians hugging outside of Nobu in Los Angeles on Feb. 20. The following day, Lavigne's rep confirmed that she and Sun had broken up.
Shortly after, Sun's rep told POPSUGAR that the pair "were together and engaged as of three days ago when Mod left for tour so if anything has changed that's news to him."
At the time, a source close to the former couple also told
People that nothing was going on between Tyga and Lavigne and that they were "genuinely friends and nothing more."
Lavigne and Sun were first linked in early 2021, and Sun proposed in Paris in March 2022. As of late February 2023, Sun seemed to be trying to figure out how to come to terms with their split. He shared an Instagram carousel and the caption, "In 1 week my entire life completely changed. I just know there's a plan for it all. I'll keep my head up + always listen to my heart, even when it feels broken."
Weeks after the "Complicated" singer's rep confirmed to POPSUGAR that she and Sun had ended their engagement, however, Lavigne was spotted kissing Tyga at Paris Fashion Week on March 6. The pair were seen cozying up at the Mugler x Hunter Schafer party, seemingly confirming their rumored romance.
