White and Timlin met when White transferred to Timlin's performing-arts high school in NYC in the middle of their freshman year, a moment Timlin described as "love at first sight" during their joint interview for a July 2019 episode of the "Showmance" podcast. "He has really blue eyes and his blue shirt brought out the blue eyes. And he had really long hair, and that was really cool," Timlin said. "He came in hot, so to speak, and [me and my classmates] were all so in love with him."
While the pair didn't date because Timlin had an off-and-on boyfriend at the time and, well, they were awkward 13-year-olds, they still became inseparable. "We spent all our time together. We cut school together. We got in trouble together, smoked pot together," Timlin said.
When Timlin decided to transfer schools when she was 15, the pair got into a fight fueled by teenage angst. "I had just transferred midway through the year, we connected, and then she was like, 'Bye! See ya later!' And was just like, 'But I just found you!'" White said of their falling out. "She did go to school like 20 blocks away," he added, acknowledging the whole thing might have been a tad dramatic.
