Pretty Little Liars: What Does "A.D." Have to Do With Mary Drake and Dr. Rollins?

Pretty Little Liars has roared into our lives with a seventh season, leaving us completely enthralled and begging for answers. In the wake of the premiere, it's abundantly clear that two dark forces are at work. On one hand, we have the seriously malicious "A.D.," who holds Hanna's safety as a collateral for information on Charlotte's death. On the other hand we have mysterious Mary Drake and her accomplice, Dr. Elliott Rollins. At this point, we can't help but wonder: are they one and the same? Keep reading to see how it all lines up.

They're All Clearly Focused on the Death of Charlotte DiLaurentis

Mary Drake and Elliott Rollins are obviously seeking to avenge Charlotte's death — Mary Drake even says Rollins is the only man Charlotte ever loved. Meanwhile, "A.D." is obsessed with discovering the identity of Charlotte's killer. We'd venture to say both parties are operating under the same motivation.

Mary Drake and Elliott Rollins Are Definitely Up to Something Shady

You can argue all you want that Elliott and Mary Drake aren't "A.D." In some sense, you'd be right; we can't really confirm or deny. That said, these two seem like they're up to no good. Here's everything they've done so far: Dr. Rollins has married Ali under deceptive pretenses. Rollins and Mary Drake disguised themselves as the corpses of Detective Wilden and Jessica DiLaurentis respectively, with the primary goal of sending Alison into a full-tilt meltdown. Elliot has seized 51 percent of the Carissimi Group, since he's married to Ali. Mary has taunted Spencer and abducted Hanna. Dr. Rollins has injected Alison with something that can't possibly be good for her.

Dr. Rollins Seemed to Find Out Awfully Fast About Alison's Alleged Role in Charlotte's Death

As we know, the whole premiere focuses on finding Charlotte's killer in order to keep Hanna safe from harm. After 24 hours of detective work, the team tosses Ali into the ring as their suspected killer. Shortly thereafter, Dr. Rollins visits Ali; he tells her he knows she's the one who murdered Charlotte. The only way Dr. Rollins could have found this out is by being "A.D." or at least being close to them.

Mary Drake Has a Dark Past, and It's All Tangled Up in Rosewood

We know Mary Drake spent time in Radley Sanitarium, which means we can sort of assume a few things. For one, her roots in Rosewood run deep, so her desire to haunt and harm the liars makes perfect sense. Additionally, it's clear "A.D." must be a little unhinged, especially if they're threatening to kill Hanna in hope of getting answers. We have to say, with her track record, Mary might be a little crazy, too. Coincidence? Maybe not.

All the Evidence From Spencer and Toby's Sleuthing

In the season premiere, Spencer and Toby ransack Mary's lair at the Lost Woods Resort. They find a few random things — like a bunch of books in different languages and a passport filled with stamps — but a few notable finds have certainly piqued our interest. We can't ignore the fact that she has a book about being tech-savvy. Even more interesting, eagle-eyed viewers can spot a book about mastering the art mask making in the background.

A Few Standout Points About Hanna

It's interesting that Hanna's been imprisoned in a shack in the woods, and Mary Drake is currently shacked up in the Lost Woods Resort. If Mary Drake were in on it with "A.D." — or, simply, she were "A.D." — having Hanna nearby would be awfully convenient. Plus, think about Hanna's encounter with Mary once she escapes: we know she gets in the car. Again, if Mary were on the inside, she'd know at that point that Hanna is not Charlotte's killer, and that's why she'd be keen to pick her up.

What do you think? Are Mary Drake, Dr. Elliott Rollins, and "A.D." all one big team? Are they at least working together? Or are they operating on totally separate terms with similar goals? We'll have to wait and see as the season unfolds.
