This Is Us Just Went Meta With a Gilmore Girls Joke, and It Was Glorious

Gilmore Girls is such a phenomenon that Milo Ventimiglia can't even escape it on his other shows. Though he'll always be Jess to us, Ventimiglia is now starring on one of the Fall's biggest new series, This Is Us, and the show resisted until its second episode to give a shout-out to his previous role. Unfortunately, his character isn't the one to reference the show — he hasn't quite caught up with the times, if you catch my drift — but Toby mentions it to Kate toward the end of the episode. "I'm still going to be at this party trying to bang a Gilmore Girl," he says. "Go for both," she counters. "The Gilmore the Gil-merrier," he jokes. You sly writers, we see you.
