Whitney Cummings Plays a Very Important — and Unexpected — Role in the Roseanne Reboot

Roseanne is officially returning to TV on March 27. While we're certainly excited to see some old faces, some new ones have also been added to the mix. Emmy Kenney, Ames McNamara, Jayden Rey, and Christopher Lloyd will all be playing new characters in the revival. When we first saw comedian and actress Whitney Cummings's name attached to the reboot, we were even more thrilled to see her join the Conner clan, but it turns out her role in the new episodes is offscreen — she's actually signed on as an executive producer, joining Tom Werner, Roseanne Barr, Bruce Helford, and Sara Gilbert.

Cummings spoke to Larry King about how she got involved with the show back in October 2017 and what she hopes to achieve by bringing it back to living rooms across the country. "Tom Werner and I had worked together and we did a pilot together at HBO," she explained. "When all of this [Donald] Trump stuff started happening, I said to him, 'Roseanne was my favorite show.' He called me when Trump got elected and said, 'Should we bring Roseanne back?' I said, 'That's a game changer. I'd be honored to be involved.'"

While Cummings neglected to reveal if Trump would be making an appearance on the show (god help us all), Barr did say that the show is going to reflect where society currently stands in this country during her show's panel at the Television Critics Association tour earlier this month.

You may recognize Cummings from her NBC series Whitney, 2008's Made of Honor, or 2015's The Wedding Ringer. Others may have even watched one of her stand-up comedy shows. Either way, we're excited to have Cummings be a part of the Roseanne family.
