Why Kate's Dog Could Play a Crucial Role in Jack's Death on This Is Us

We are one step closer to finding out exactly how Jack dies on This Is Us, which means fans are going overboard with theories. While a lot of people seem to think Kate caused her father's death, after Tuesday night's episode, we think it might actually have something to do with her dog. As Reddit user Khaleeasi24 points out, there's a good chance Kate runs back into the burning house to save her dog, and as a result, Jack goes back in to save Kate.

Maybe when he brings Kate to safety, something happens at the last minute and a floor or ceiling collapses on him. This could be the reason why his personal effects aren't tarnished when Rebecca is shown driving home in the season two premiere. Maybe all this time, he doesn't actually die from the fire, but from a bad injury.

This could also explain why Kate feels so guilty about her father's death, not to mention why she is so uneasy around dogs. If she hadn't gone back for her pet, the whole family would have been safe. Guess we will just have to wait until the upcoming Super Bowl episode to find out for sure. In the meantime, we'll be stocking up on Kleenex.
