10 Shows to Watch Instead of Streaming Friends For the Millionth Time

Produced by David Crane, who co-created Friends, this series revolves around a British husband-and-wife comedy writing team who move to Hollywood to remake their successful British TV series, only to find themselves constantly irritated by their new star, Matt LeBlanc. You'll truly start to wonder where Joey ends and Matt begins, and the result is hilariously meta.

This comedic gem from Tina Fey did not get a fair shake. Briga Heelan stars as a local news producer whose new job is complicated by the fact that her mother (Andrea Martin) gets an internship at the station. Filled with over-the-top characters, Great News is a closer companion to 30 Rock, but it's still worth checking out as a Friends fix. Unceremoniously canceled by NBC, both seasons live on Netflix.

Just like the Friends hangout spot, Central Perk, this sitcom classic revolves around a cosy bar in Boston run by a former relief pitcher for the Boston Red Sox, where the friends that gather there come to feel more like family. Starring Ted Danson from The Good Place, Cheers features several wacky characters that make the bar their home-away-from-home (and that will make you wish you had a local bar where everyone knows your name).

Though this show revolves around a chlamydia diagnosis (yes, you read that right), it is actually a surprisingly tender exploration of the romantic trials and failures of three best friends over the years, each episode filling in more details about Lothario Dylan's many romances and how this trio of friends eventually came together. Think How I Met Your Mother, but instead of leading up to Ted's mystery woman, the show leads up to every woman Dylan potentially infected (but learned from along the way).

Of all of these shows, One Day at a Time may be the most similar to Friends in writing style and tone, though rather than following a group of friends that become family, this sitcom reboot revolves around an actual Cuban-American family as they navigate life's challenges together. The perfect mix of heart and laughs, this show is as easy and enjoyable to binge watch as a Friends marathon.

Though far zanier than the Friends crew, the dysfunctional friend group on Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is what we imagine a Harlem basement apartment full of Phoebe Buffays would feel like. When you take a former mole woman, an outrageous out-of-work actor, an eccentric landlord, and a delusional divorcée, things are bound to get hilariously weird.

Loosely based on Aziz Ansari's real-life experiences, Master of None takes a familiar premise and makes it feel refreshingly offbeat. This show also revolves around a group of New York-based friends and their personal struggles with careers and romances, but it also portrays struggles with identity, generational differences, and sexuality that you rarely (if ever) find with the Friends crew.
