Everything We Know About The Vampire Diaries' 3-Years-Later Timeline

Not only is Caroline a career girl in Texas, working at a news station, but she is engaged — to Alaric! Not only are we curious about how she and Stefan are pushed apart, but we also want to know exactly how this Caroline/Alaric thing happened. Maybe it has something to do with . . .

So those two little girls that Alaric has? They are his and Jo's twins — Gemini twins, to be exact, and saved by the coven when Jo is murdered, Valerie learns. Even more shockingly, in the most recent episode, we find out that the babies have somehow implanted themselves into Caroline. As unlikely as that scenario is, it does explain how the show will handle Candice King's real-life pregnancy.

We did not see this relationship coming. Though they have rarely even spoken to each other over the course of Enzo being on this show, three years into the future, Bonnie and Enzo are totally together. And Bonnie is in some sort of treatment center talking about a traumatic loss due to a mistake she made.

The first time we see Damon in the three-years-forward time, he's being woken up by Stefan in a coffin — and he's grumpy about it. Apparently he was supposed to stay there until Elena has been awoken 60 years later.

Well, as together as two hibernating vampires can be. I guess if he hooks up with someone, it doesn't last, and his heart still belongs to Elena.

Despite Lily's better efforts to use the hiding/desecrating of Elena's body as a bargaining chip, it must be that her body is safe and sound, if Damon is willing to go to "sleep" for her.

It's the reason Damon gets "woken" by Stefan, and it's still a mystery who the shooter is.
