At this point, we already had a pretty good idea about how Netflix's adaptation of The Witcher would take shape. There were all those sneak peeks on social media! And multiple shots of star Henry Cavill rocking one hell of a silver wig as Geralt of Rivia! But now, thanks to the show's big panel at San Diego Comic-Con's famed Hall H, we have some footage to feast our eyes on.
In the first teaser, above, we meet Geralt: a sorcerer, outcast, and cold-blooded killer who's tasked with ridding the world of monsters. The series is described by Netflix as being an "epic tale of fate and family," where the real monsters that Geralt faces often prove to be people closest to him. Eventually he crosses paths with a powerful sorceress and a young princess with a dangerous secret, and the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together.
The TV adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski's fantasy novels, which also spawned an insanely popular video game of the same name, has Lauren Schmidt Hissrich — who's produced everything from The Defenders to Parenthood — on board as showrunner and has the cast all lined up. Yennefer will be played by Wanderlust and Sherwood alum Anya Chalotra, while Into the Badlands actress Freya Allan is taking on the role of Ciri. A release date is still TBD at this point, but luckily the streaming giant has plenty of other originals you can check out in the meantime.
