Who Survives Rogue One? Here Are the Most Important Deaths

When it was revealed that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story would be a prequel to A New Hope, we were confused. How could filmmakers present an entirely new cast of characters, let alone Rebel fighters, we hadn't already heard of? Who is this Jyn Erso, and how would they get away with creating someone so vital who would inexplicably never show up in any of the following films? The internet at large theorized that this cast of heroes would logically have to die. Now that the movie is out, we can — seriously, spoiler alert — confirm that that is exactly what happens. They're not the only ones who don't make it out of Rogue One alive; read on the find out which characters perish before the film's end.

Saw Gerrera

Gerrera serves his purpose when he meets with Jyn, but he's killed shortly after.

Galen Erso

Though Galen is forced to work on the Death Star, Jyn's dad is ultimately a good guy. Krennic's men are about to assassinate him for his betrayal of the Empire when he's ironically killed by Rebel forces attacking the base.

K-2SO

Sassy robot K-2SO sacrifices himself so that Jyn and Cassian can access the drive with the Death Star's plans. RIP, you beautiful machine.

Bodhi Rook

Ex-Imperial pilot Bodhi is blown to shreds on his stolen ship . . . right after notifying the Rebels that Jyn was ready to beam the plans up to them.

Baze Malbus

Baze also becomes a casualty in the battlefield, being killed after heroically taking out a ton of the Empire's soldiers.

Chirrut Imwe

Strangely enough, Chirrut brings some humor to his death scene. Both blind and Force sensitive, he gracefully walks across the beach as a hail of gunfire rains down. Once he flips on the power needed to transmit the plans, he is killed.

Director Orson Krennic

Evil Krennic comes close to stopping Jyn from transmitting the plans, but Cassian saves the day, firing at him in the last minute. He's not necessarily dead . . . until the Death Star blows up the planet.

Cassian Andor

Doomed hero Cassian also dies when the Death Star fires on the planet.

Jyn Erso

It's bittersweet, as Cassian is clutching onto Jyn when the Imperial base is annihilated. The two make it to the beach and seem to be at peace with their fate, having successfully played their part in the rebellion.
