Star Wars has a history of covering actors up in elaborate makeup, costumes, and CGI until they're unrecognizable. Considering the films take place in outer space and all kinds of alien species, robots, and the like roam around the galaxy, it makes perfect sense. In The Last Jedi alone, viewers can see but not really see Andy Serkis as Supreme Leader Snoke, Lupita N'yongo as Maz Katana, and even Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Slowen-Lo. And what about the chrome-armored Captain Phasma? If you've ever wondered who's inside that suit, that's British actress Gwendoline Christie!

Gwendoline got her acting career started through theater in 2006 and has starred in plays such as Cymbeline, Breakfast at Tiffany's, and Doctor Faustus. However, she's likely most recognized for what's easily her breakout role — Brienne of Tarth on Game of Thrones. If you're familiar with the huge fantasy series, then it's easy to see why she was cast as Captain Phasma. In both roles, she's intimidatingly tough, decked out in awesome armor, and absolutely badass.

You might also know Gwendoline from a few other popular works like the last installment of the Hunger Games films, Mockingjay — Part 2, as Commander Lyme, and the Emmy-nominated series Top of the Lake as Miranda Hilmarson. Next, she'll appear in more high concept films — sci-fi thriller The Darkest Minds and fantasy drama The Women of Marwen. But regardless of where we'll see her next, she's made it perfectly clear that she adores being part of the Star Wars universe:
