I Watch Girl Meets World and I'm 27 Years Old

If you loved Cory and Topanga years ago, you'll love them now, too. As parents raising their kids in NYC, they're definitely all grown up, but their quirky personalities haven't changed, and the chemistry between them is still as sweet as ever. Cory, who's now teaching at his daughter's school, is the goofy, self-conscious dad you always knew he'd be, and he's still adorably anxious and insecure. Watching them on Girl Meets World feels like running into your childhood friends and feeling — awesomely — like nothing and everything has changed.

From the silly facial expressions to the worrywart tendencies to the big, over-the-top dramatics, Riley (Rowan Blanchard) is exactly like her dad in the best of ways. Ben Savage said she's "definitely Cory's daughter," and it's true — as an actress, Rowan perfectly channels that quirky charm that made Cory so lovable on Boy Meets World, and her sweet, naive character captures the heart of the show. Oh, and don't be surprised if you recognize a piece of your awkward, innocent 12-year-old self in Riley.

If you grew up loving shows like Full House and Boy Meets World, watching Girl Meets World will make you tap into who you were as a kid. Like its '90s predecessors, the series centers on friends and family, with most of the scenes taking place at school and around the dinner table. As a 27-year-old, I found myself feeling more than a little nostalgic, with Riley's everyday problems — homework, awkward crushes, fitting in — bringing back plenty of memories I hadn't thought about in years.

Sure, I love Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad as much as anyone, but it's pretty nice to watch happy endings every once in a while. And yes, of course, there are plenty of cheesy lines — this is a kids' show, after all — but there's something really, really refreshing about watching all those life lessons play out as an adult. At 27, I know that problems don't actually get solved so simply and that not every loose end can be tied up with a bow, but I finish each episode on a high, happy note. (Rather than, you know, worrying about violent nightmares courtesy of all that King's Landing drama.)

Although the pilot gives you a pretty good idea of what the show's all about, the first few episodes focus heavily on the kids, and Cory and Topanga's storylines start to play out a bit later. These early episodes are very, very similar to those early episodes of Boy Meets World, and if the show continues to be successful as the characters grow up, it will be interesting to see if it evolves and changes like Boy Meets World did. In any case, there's also one very big reason to keep watching — the Girl Meets World set pictures show us that some exciting cameos from Shawn and Eric may be on the way!
