When Hannah can't reach Jessa and doesn't want to talk to Marnie or Shoshanna about her problems, she calls ex-boyfriend Adam, who dramatically (and shirtlessly) runs across Brooklyn to save her. It's kind of romantic that he says, "I was always here," to a scared, relieved Hannah — except that he is still dating Natalia when they reunite. In fact, things are pretty good between Adam and Natalia when he goes running to Hannah — they had been working on getting their sex life back to normal in the wake of that traumatizing encounter they have in the episode before the finale.
