14 Actors Who've Been on Both Grey's Anatomy and Scandal

Burton had a recurring role on Grey's as Ellis Grey, a brilliant surgeon and difficult (to say the least) mother to Meredith. Burton has appeared in 19 episodes of the show, and though Ellis passes away from Alzheimer's in season three, she still pops up from time to time in flashbacks.

As Sally Langston, Burton has been a staple on Scandal since season one. Sally starts out as Fitz's power-hungry vice president, tries to run for president but hits a snag when she murders her husband after learning he's gay, and currently hosts the poltiical talk show, "The Liberty Report."

Before he was one of Olivia's two hot love interests on Scandal, Foley played the sweet but sickly Henry on Grey's Anatomy. He and Teddy develop an adorable romance but their relationship is ill-fated: Henry dies shortly after he and Teddy truly fall for each other, ending Foley's 15-episode run on the show.

If you're a Scandal fan, then Foley's role as Jake needs no real introduction (and is basically impossible to summarize in just a few sentences). Jake's the superhot, supercomplicated, and possibly superevil foil to Fitz and the guy that Olivia hops into bed with whenever she and Fitz are on the outs.

As it turns out, both of the actors who play Meredith's parents on Grey's ended up on Scandal as well. Perry came in and out of the show as her absentee father, Thatcher Grey, usually bringing emotional pain for Meredith with him, until Thatcher dies in the hospital in season seven.

Perry has been part of the main cast of Scandal since its inception, playing Fitz's chief of staff, Cyrus Beene. Cyrus's thirst for power has landed him in his own fair sure of, um, scandals, throughout the years, and he's currently angling to carry a new candidate into the Oval Office in season five.

Hinton has been a mainstay on Grey's since season nine as Dr. Stephanie Edwards. Stephanie starts out with a crop of fresh interns and works her way up to residency.

Hinton also appears in one episode of Scandal's first season, playing a lab technician the Gladiators consult with regarding a rape case.

Lowes, who also appeared on Private Practice, had a brief appearance in season seven of Grey's as a blood donor.

Lowes is a series regular on Scandal as Quinn, who is recruited to the Gladiators in the show's pilot episode. Throughout the course of five seasons, Quinn has a twisted romance with Huck, discovers how much she enjoys killing people, and has grown into her role as the glue that keeps the Gladiators together when Olivia has one of her downward spirals.

Malina appears in season five of Grey's as the the husband of a hypochondriac patient between his long-term roles on The West Wing and Scandal — he also played a patient in one episode of Private Practice to boot.

On Scandal, Malina plays attorney general David Rosen, who often ends up in the middle of drama despite his attempts to follow the rules and maintain a moral compass.

Adelstein was really more of a star on Private Practice, but his character, Dr. Cooper Freedman, makes his debut on two episodes of Grey's Anatomy's third season, just a few months before the spinoff hit primetime. The two-parter features Freedman taking a break from Seattle Grace, introducing us to the cast of Private Practice.

Adelstein's character Leo comes and goes on Scandal; he has a prominent role in season three as Sally's campaign consultant, and later starts up a relationship with Abby Whelan.

Young was also part of the first Grey's Anatomy/Private Practice crossover episodes, playing a patient who seeks help from the practice when she and her husband start having issues with their sexual relationship.

On Scandal, Young stars as Mellie Grant, the fiery first lady who's making a run for president in season five.

Newbern will first and foremost always be the groom from Father of the Bride to me, but he also appears in an episode of Grey's Anatomy in season five, as one of the patients participating in a domino kidney transplant.

Newbern plays Charlie on Scandal; he's quirky, he likes Quinn, and he's a B613 assassin.

Bucatinsky appeared on one episode of Grey's as Jeffrey, who accompanies his boyfriend to the hospital for bronchitis but learns that he has cancer.

Poor James. We all remember Bucatinsky as Cyrus's loving journalist husband who gets too deeply involved in the tangled White House web — and ultimately pays his life for it.

In a season-six flashback episode, Henry plays an attending general surgeon overseeing Ellis and Richard, who are residents in the '80s at the time.

Henry has a recurring role on Scandal as Hollis Doyle, and his character (who bears an eerie resemblance to Donald Trump) is running for president in season five.

Weil currently stars on the Shonda Rimes hit How to Get Away With Murder, but back in the day she appeared on Grey's as Alison, whom Izzie befriends during chemo treatment. Sadly, Alison ultimately passes away.

Weil had a longer stint on Scandal, playing Amanda Tanner in season one. Amanda represents the very first "scandal" when her affair with the president is exposed, and is later murdered when it's revealed that Amanda is pregnant (presumably with Fitz's baby). (Suffice to say, Liza Weil's characters have not had the best luck in Shondaland, though she's still going strong on HTGAWM.)

Devar has a really small role in the first season of Grey's as a fellow intern that checks out a shirtless Alex in the locker room.

Devar plays Lauren Wellman on Scandal, a recurring character who works as one of Fitz's assistants.

Abdoo had a role in a recent episode of Grey's as Callie and Arizona's marriage counselor.

Abdoo appears in four epsiodes of Scandal's fifth season as Senator Linda Moskowitz, who clashes with Mellie.
