In the same interview with Collider, Malek teased where Elliot finds himself after he realizes that Mr. Robot is in his head: "It changes him, entirely . . . I happened to know where [Elliot] was headed this season, so I took some big changes and I think the audience will be rewarded by them. Maybe they’ll end up on the editing floor, but that remains to be seen."
By far the most information we've gotten from the cast is from Entertainment Weekly's recent cover story. "He's pretty psychologically f*cked when we start," Malek said. When the season picks up, Elliot is living at home with his mother, a less-than-ideal situation, according to Malek. "Being around his mother, as negative as it has been in the past, allows Elliot to be reminded that he has a home and that that world exists. As bad as it was, there is a world that exists outside of his compromised memory that he can trust."
At least Malek trusts creator Sam Esmail and teased that this season won't let fans down: "When he presented this second season to me, I said 'Really? This is where you're going with this?' I was a little skeptical, and then I thought 'Every time you were skeptical of anything in the first season, he proved you wrong.' I think he's going to shock a lot of people. It's as intelligent and risky as the first season."
