Just like April, Jackson's exit is emotional, but not sad. During the upheavals of 2020, he really struggles to figure out what he's "supposed" to be doing, especially as a very privileged, wealthy doctor from a powerful family and also as a Black man in America. He makes the decision to leave Seattle and move to Boston to take over the Avery Foundation. While it's sad to see him bidding his friends farewell, it's a hopeful ending where he's doing good work (and is reunited with April and their daughter).
