This wisecracking pair of lovable androids have managed to pop up in every single Star Wars movie to grace the big screen. They first meet in The Phantom Menace when a young Anakin shows R2-D2 and Padme a nearly completed C-3P0 — the android he built. After that, they stick together throughout the remainder of the series, occasionally splitting up for side missions.
In A New Hope, Luke finds a message from Leia along with plans for the Death Star hidden in R2-D2 and sets off on his new path. By the time we reach Return of the Jedi, they're still alive and kicking, but in The Force Awakens, R2-D2 is not activated and C-3P0 is sporting a red arm for reasons we haven't yet figured out. In Rogue One, they appear at a rebel base in a blink-and-you-missed-it cameo.
