Theory: Will Killing the Night King End the War or Not?

So this theory is a little wild, but if the Night King is immortal by the same definition that someone like Death is (an entity that forever exists), then who's to say dragonglass or Valyrian steel will vanquish him? Basically, one cannot kill an immortal being, so maybe the best way to defeat the Night King is to have someone benevolent take his place.
