In "Tell-Tale Hearts," Bonnie's mom Elizabeth comes to Monterey in an attempt to help Nathan figure out how to connect with his wife (who is very obviously dealing with PTSD after causing Perry's death). After reading the hell out of Nathan, Bonnie, and her husband Martin while having dinner at a restaurant, Elizabeth later creeps into Bonnie and Nathan's bedroom, arranges a bone, feather, and crystal on the dresser, and appears to pray over her daughter's sleeping body.
Bonnie confronts her mother about the talismans; Elizabeth then reveals that she's "been having visions lately" and knows Bonnie's been having them, too. "They are strong . . . somebody's drowning," she says. "I see lots of water, and somebody's drowning. I see you drowning right now, in a way." Between Elizabeth's shrewdness and Mary Louise's persistence, nothing is getting past these moms.
