In one such republic, teenager Charlie is left alone when her father is murdered and her brother is kidnapped by militia leaders. She tracks down her estranged uncle Miles to rescue her brother and try to figure out what, exactly, her parents knew about the blackout and the possible ways to turn the power back on.
