Toula Portokalos (Nia Vardalos) lives an unfilled life. The 30-year-old is single; works at her family's Greek restaurant, Dancing Zorba's; and has dreams of going to college. Considered the "ugly duckling" of the family, Toula has never had a boyfriend, but this all changes when she meets school teacher Ian Miller (John Corbett). The only problem? Ian isn't Greek, which makes it difficult for Toula's family to accept him. Despite this, they eventually warm up to him, and the couple have a traditional Greek wedding. The entire film sets up the importance of being with the one you love and following your dreams, but it also has an amazing sequence of scenes leading up to the wedding day — making it loved by fans (and my personal favorite).
