Who's Texting Young-Ok in "Our Blues"? 3 Convincing Theories

Netflix's latest K-drama, "Our Blues," depicts the intertwining stories of a group of people residing on the bustling and serene, yet incredibly remote, Jeju Island (with the help of a gorgeous OST by Jimin and Sungwoon). Among the stories that play out in the series is Lee Young-Ok (Han Ji-Min) and Park Jeong-Jun's (Kim Woo-Bin) heart-fluttering budding relationship, which quickly captured the viewers' attention and hearts. While the sweet friendship between the levelheaded sea captain and the vivacious haenyeo (female diver) blossoms into a promising romance in episode five, the speculations and enigma surrounding Young-Ok's past experiences might cast a dark cloud over their future.

Though it is clear that Young-Ok reciprocates Jeong-Jun's romantic feelings, the intrigue about the mysterious person she's remaining in touch with via text will likely play a central role in their love story moving forward. We first see this person text Young-Ok from an unsaved number in episode two, writing, "miss you like crazy." A distressing expression sweeps over Young-Ok's face as soon as she reads the text, prompting her to leave the room immediately. We then see the same person buzzing her phone with numerous repeated texts in episode three, writing, "I miss you," to which Young-Ok finally responds by typing that she promises to go see them the second Saturday of next month, eliciting an aggressive "You b*tch" from the other end. When Young-Ok receives a call from the same number later in the episode, she assures them that she loves them, too, and that "it's not just one-sided." She even receives a bunch of random pictures from the contact number in episode five.

So, who's this mysterious person from whom Young-Ok keeps getting constant calls and texts? Based on what we know so far, we may have some idea. Continue reading to learn about the potential candidates who fit the bill.

Is Young-Ok's Ex Choi Seong-Jun Texting Her?

Young-Ok opens up to Jeong-Jun about her last boyfriend before coming to Jeju two years ago. Named Choi Seong-Ju, the two met while working together at a handmade shoe factory in Cheongju. According to Young-Ok, Seong-Jun is a successful shoemaker whom Young-Ok assisted. While the exact details of their split haven't been revealed yet, Young-Ok implies it wasn't necessarily a clean break when she gets worked up talking about her ex's asinine excuse to break up with his previous partners in episode six. There's a possibility that Young-Ok launched into that rant because she's still upset over Seong-Jun's inability to leave her alone following their breakup.

Is Young-Ok's Ex Cheol-Ung Texting Her?

Is Young-Ok's Ex Cheol-Ung Texting Her?

Young-Ok met Cheol-Ung in Gangneung at age 22, whom she dated for two years. Cheol-Ung could sing and play the guitar well, but, to her dismay, he would transform into an unpredictably different person when drunk, as per Young-Ok's description of him. And while he never physically lost his cool with Young-Ok, or any other woman, for that matter, he'd get into violent altercations with other men when intoxicated. When he picked a fight with a passerby one day, Yeong-Ok herself reported him to the police and later broke things off with him, leaving Gangneung.

Based on the portrait she paints of her time with Cheol-Ung, it appears he'd still be hung up on her since it wasn't a mutual breakup. And the erratic texts and phone calls do seem to align with his volatile nature. After all, Young-Ok calls him a "total thug" when defining his character traits. Could it be him who relentlessly keeps attempting to get back together with Young-Ok every now and then? While Young-Ok seems bothered by any contact maintained by this unidentified person, her reasons for not fully cutting ties might come to the forefront as we head deep into their story with upcoming episodes. Moreover, episodes 13 and 14 are titled "Young-Ok, Jeong-Jun, and …," which suggests we'll delve into this mysterious character during those episodes.

Is Young-Ok Texting Someone From Her Family?

Is Young-Ok Texting Someone From Her Family?

Young-Ok isn't a Jeju native like Jeong-Jun. She moved here only a couple of years back, and despite having moved around a bunch of times, she seems content enough to say she might put down roots in Jeju. Whenever the subject of her family comes up, however, she dodges the question with different answers each time. She tells some her mother's an artist, while she tells others she has no parents at all.

There could be a sound reason behind her inclination to not disclose any actual information about her family members. Is she not on good terms with them? Did something monumental happen in the past to cause the distance? It stands to reason that someone from her family might be reaching out to her if they are, in fact, in the picture. Could it be her parents, or a sibling, perhaps? We'll likely get all the answers in future episodes.

New episodes of "Our Blues" hit Netflix at 10 a.m. EST each Saturday and Sunday until the series finale on June 12.
