It also paints a portrait of New York's transformation over the years, emphasizing the way police and violence were used to transform and gentrify lower Manhattan, disrupting the nascent communities and refuges that formed there in the process. The best part of this documentary is that it features so many real stories from the women who it focuses on, and it gives airtime to both the grit and the beauty of their lives.
