Reasons to Watch The Angry Birds Movie

If you’ve ever spent time watching your kids launch those little birds across your phone screen, you know that there really isn’t much to the game. It’s simple, but the movie introduces the birds as multifaceted characters with personalities and backstories, something that the game couldn’t do.

Just like The Lego Movie, viewers need not know anything about the game inspiration for the film. In a roundtable discussion, Josh Gad told POPSUGAR Moms, “You don't need a comprehensive knowledge — or any knowledge, for that matter — of the video game. [The movie] exists on its own. . . . It’s its own unique thing."

3 It teaches kids to deal with frustration and anger and turn it into something good.

Much like Inside Out, The Angry Birds Movie dives deep into the world of feelings, especially, of course, anger. Throughout the course of the film, the main character, Red, learns how to use his anger as passion, helping him to fight for what he believes is right.

4 It shows that despite feeling like an outcast, being bullied, or having trouble fitting in, you can find people to connect to.

Red feels like he’s totally invisible from the time he’s a baby bird, but through learning how to manage his temper and connect with others, he realizes that friendships are formed when you find those with common goals and interests and that there are people out there for every type of person to connect with if you open yourself up to it.

5 It’s hysterical.

Even though this movie is about angry birds, it’s going to make you and your kids erupt in constant fits of giggles. And like most kid movies, this film is peppered with little gems that the kids will surely laugh at but are really blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moments that are a total nod to the parents sitting in the audience.

6 The ensemble cast is a parent’s dream.

Think SNL cast members — Jason Sudeikis, Maya Rudolph, Bill Hader — everyone’s favorite Lannister, Peter Dinklage, and, of course, Josh Gad (also known as Olaf). Hearing some of your favorite voices will make the hysterical one-liners even more worth the laugh.
