These Photos Depict What Raising Boys Actually Looks Like

Sara Liz Photography

Sara Easter, a photographer from Arlington, TX, knows a thing or two about capturing authentic childhood experiences. And her best subjects? Her three sons, who are 4, 7, and 9 years old. She told POPSUGAR that although she cherishes family portraits, it's not what her family's day-to-day life really looks like:

"We never match, our house is usually somewhat of a disaster zone, and there is almost always some level of chaos happening. That's what I want to remember. I want to look back in 20 years and remember what my boys look like with their Saturday morning bed head, after a long day of adventures outside, or in those precious seconds when they are genuinely being nice to each other."

Sara also admitted that she looks forward to flipping through these photos down the road when her sons are all grown up. "I want them to have photos that reflect their childhood, not just bring back memories of the 'picture shirt' I made them put on and how they had to actually fix their hair that day," she said. "It's so easy to get caught up in cute Pinterest ideas and trends in family photography, but I really want the photographs I give my boys to be timeless. I want them to be a reflection of how I view them, all the little details and ever-changing quirks that I love about them and I think are worth remembering."

And as far as getting that "perfect" shot goes? It's not exactly a top priority for this mama. "When I'm documenting my kids and our life with my camera, it helps me to see what is beautiful about it. When I take pictures with all the imperfections in our lives, it allows me to see what is absolutely perfect about it."
