At first, I debated just not posting one but things sometimes don’t go as planned and I thought it was important to not only share the good things about pregnancy, but also the not so great. . . First, I want to start by saying that #BabyHorine is doing great and healthy as can be. I am not in early labor and this little one is not coming any time soon! S/he measures around 17.2 in, and although the average weight for this week is 4.23 lbs, I now know his/her weight is 4 lbs 9 oz. . . So now, onto mommy and the reason for this unexpected bump update. Early last week, I kept having bad cramping and back pain, but my doctor confirmed on Wednesday that I wasn’t in labor and the baby was fine. However, on Thursday, I woke up with severe back pain on my right side and we headed over to the ER. After hours there and many failed attempts to control the pain, I was admitted. To make a long story short, I’ve been here since then (although I’m finally going home today!), and what they know is that my right kidney has fluid buildup and it’s having a hard time draining into the bladder. Because of the baby/pregnancy, they can’t confirm if there is a stone in the ureter or if it’s the baby causing the blockage. But the reality is that it’s causing severe pain (peaking at 8-10 pain level around 3 times every day), and that managing it while pregnant has been a challenge. After many talks with both obgyns and urologists, we agree the best is for me to go home and continue to deal with the pain there with the medications/techniques I’ve learned in the last 5 days. The next few weeks are uncertain; we don’t know if the pain will diminish/go away, how I’ll deal with it on my own, but this late into the pregnancy the options are limited. With that said, if you’ve ever passed a stone and you did something that helped you a ton with the pain, please share it with me!!! I’m open to all pregnancy-friendly suggestions. 😊 . . I’m not gonna lie, it’s been hard being here and being in this much pain every few hours, and the idea of continuing to deal with this pain for 6 weeks is daunting (cont in comments).
