Rihanna's Met Gala Looks Have All Been Pretty Outrageous, but Only 1 Takes the Cake

It's Rihanna's world, and we just live in it. In addition to her existing titles of singer, fashion designer, beauty mogul, and all-around style badass, the Barbadian beauty is set to take on a new role as cohost of this year's Met Gala, along with Amal Clooney, Donatella Versace, and Anna Wintour. While this may be her first time hosting what is arguably the fashion industry's biggest night, RiRi is certainly no stranger to that iconic red staircase, having attended her first ball in 2007.

In fact, we'd argue she's the reigning queen of the gala (fight us), with over a decade of unforgettable looks under her belt. So while we wait with bated breath to see how she plans to slay on Monday, May 7, we're taking some time to look back on every one of Rihanna's Met Gala looks and marveling at how the queen of everything extra just seems to top herself every year. Long may she reign.

Nailed it. For the 2017 tribute to Comme des Garcons designer Rei Kawakubo, Rihanna proved she is a force to be reckoned with, rocking an insanely detailed ruffled look from the label with seriously laced-up Dsquared2 heels. All hail the queen.

She looked like a work of walking art from every angle — and she knew it.

To celebrate the museum's China: Through the Looking Glass exhibition, she hit the red carpet in all-yellow everything by Chinese couturier Guo Pei, complete with a mile-long train and regal headpiece, naturally. It was the look that dropped a thousand jaws — and launched a thousand memes.

The train required several helpers to perfectly drape it across the staircase for photos. You know, casual.

Her earlier looks were more subdued but still sexy, as evidenced by the sleek croc-embossed Tom Ford number Rihanna wore to the 2012 gala.

She had already nailed that over-the-shoulder pose by this point, and the low back ensured she was noticed coming and going.

A completely sheer side panel redefined the concept of side-slit gowns.

Spotted leaving the event with a rose in hand, little did Rihanna know she would go on to rule that red carpet. Our baby girl is all grown up now.
