This Plus-Size Brand's NYFW Debut Will Be a Win For Us All

Update:

Though Torrid will be the first plus-size brand to show at the re-branded NYFW, Cabiria Style was the first brand to show in the official IMG NYFW tents in 2013 in collaboration with the Fashion Law Institute. The article below has been updated to reflect that.

Torrid's announcement that it will be showing at Fashion Week come September isn't just a win for the plus-size brand, it's a win for everyone who's been waiting for the fashion industry to take real steps toward inclusion. If you don't yet know Torrid, you will soon. The brand, which makes cute, superwearable — and affordable — clothing for sizes 10-30, will make its runway debut during fashion primetime, New York Fashion Week.

Take a moment to appreciate that. That's a big deal. While designers and brands have hinted toward change, this is the first time in seasons that a plus-size brand and plus-size models will have their own stage at NYFW, smack dab in the middle of the style world's most watched event. The stakes are high, surely, but we've been waiting for a move like this one. Adding to the anticipation, Torrid will be casting 10 models for the show from a model search. So there's a lot to be excited about.

While we eagerly await the runway in September, take a minute to familiarize yourself with the brand's Fall looks — modeled here by the stunning Candice Huffine.
