Do You Wear Makeup to the Gym?

Making the effort to go to the gym is a feat to be proud of in itself, but when you're ready to work up a sweat, do you take the time to put makeup on too? With the multitude of cute workout wear available these days, some say it's worth it to feel polished when hitting the treadmill — and that means completing your look with a finished face. Others say it's totally not worth it since you're not there to look pretty, you're there to get fit. Besides, the makeup will melt right off anyways. Either way, everyone has their own opinion on a done-up face for your fitness routine. What is your take?

yes i wear makeup to gym, because usually i'm coming from somewhere else like work or school. but i also have problem skin so i always put a little concealer on my skin whenever i leave the house. i always wash my face as soon i get home from the gym anyway, so it doesn't really matter.

To be honest I always wear just a little bit of makeup wherever I go. I don't go to the gym all the often, as I prefer netball, but when I do I wear a little foundation just to even out my skin and that way after exercising my face doesn't look so blotchy.

I'm with you fit, just lip balm. But I usually just wear make up when I go out, not on a daily basis, so it doesn't cross my mind to wear make up to the gym. Plus, I sweat a lot, so I'd always be worrying if my make up was in place!

i just wear mascara.... must be so bad for your skin to wear make up while exercising. surely you'd get hot so your pores open up and you'd sweat.... letting makeup in just as much as makeup out. i always have face wipes in my bag but i'd keep mascara on.

If I have makeup on already from the day I won't remove it before I go to the gym, but I won't take time to touch it up for the gym...if I don't have any on, I won't put it on to go to the gym.

I always thought it was bad for you skin to wear makeup while exercising. Like the sweat plus all the foundation on concealer...? I don't know, is that just a myth?

I know I shouldn't, but I can't help but looking my best. :/

I will only if I've already been out or if I won't have time to put it on after a workout/shower.

There wasn't a choice that fit me, so I went with "no" since it was the closest. I keep pre-moistened make-up removers in my gym back to remove anything that's on my skin - foundation, concealer, etc. I don't bother removing mascara (I'd rather not rub makeup and makeup remover around on my eyes) or my lips, though, so I may occasionally work out with a little bit of color on my lips and lengthened lashes. I don't think I've ever put on makeup BEFORE a work-out, unless the chapstick in my gym bag (which happens to be tinted) counts.
Okay, I HAVE to say something about all these commenters who believe wearing make up to the gym is what causes break-outs. Acne is not a hygiene issue. When you see something with a zit, don't just assume they are a filthy pig who never washes their face. People with bad skin do take great care to ALWAYS wash their face twice a day, but doing so any more often is not good for you. And I think it's FANTASTIC if you have even skin tone and can go around without foundation. For most of my life, if someone saw me without foundation and concealer carefully applied, they say, "OMG your face is like a lobster? What's wrong? Do you have the chicken pox or herpes of the forehead?" Thanks to hormone drugs + accutane, I am now fixed and no amount of exercising in my make up will make me break out like I used to.

I only wear make up if I am coming from work. So if it is already on i don't take it off just to work out. On the weekends I don't put makeup on before the gym cuz usually i wake up and go straight to the gym...on a good day!

I almost always work out first thing in the morning, so I never have makeup on then. Plus, when I work out in the morning, I'm at home and no one's around to see me so I don't care. If I'm going to squeeze in a workout during my lunch break, I either don't put any makeup on before work or I just have on what I put on before work...generally just tinted moisturizer, mascara, and a coat of lip gloss. Working out with full makeup on just kind of grosses me mixed with sweat staying on your skin can't be great for it.

I say who cares! At least these women wearing makeup are working on there fitness! If that is the motivation they need for them to get to the gym why should I care? Sure there are those chicks that go to the gym just to look cute and flirt with the boys... but most often there are chicks there with makeup on working their booties off.

If I work out in the evening...i just go to the gym and if I happen to have makeup on then i still work out...but if I get up early in the morning, I work out without it because I haven't put it on yet. I don't see a problem if its just your days gets different when you apply pounds of eyeshadow and what not just to go to the gym...But I do think it creates confidence. Especially in a large gym. I don't like the feeling of being not put together...if that means I leave some waterproof mascara on during a run then so be it...who cares?

I don't really change my makeup if i'm going to the gym; if i'm wearing makeup, i wear it, and if i'm not wearing any, i don't put any on. The only thing i always make sure i'm wearing is clear lip balm, but that's because my lips dry out at the drop of a hat.

I normally go for a walk/run right after work (my work has a 2 mile chip trail around the business campus). I keep makeup removing face wipes in my workout bag. I take off everything except my mascara. Can't stand to wipe my brow or nose sweat while running and get a big make-up stain on my sleeve.
